Hey, I’m

Joseph

Creative Tech / Videographer

About Me

Hello, I'm Joseph Walsh. Most people call me Joe for short. I have largely adopted the "creative tech" title as I have an interest in both computers and videography, graphic design, and photography. I currently work as a technology assistant, where I provide on-site support and repair on all technology items including PC hardware and software, Chromebooks, interactive technology, projectors, printers, mobile devices, and much more.

In my spare time, I enjoy running, spending time with family and friends, watching Impractical Jokers, and finding a good place to watch the sunset. I'm probably Photoshopping something right now or watching some sort of videos related to Windows Server or the latest iPhone. I'm kind of a geek like that.

I have done many freelance projects including some of the ones done as assignments as you will see highlighted below. Interested in what you see? Drop me a line. Let's chat!

Sound Design for Visual Media Project

Audio Documentary Project

In this partner project, Tim and I start with a silent video and add all of the music and sounds you hear in it. For this project, a Pro Tools session was created and separate tracks were created for every sound heard in this video. The only thing not on our side during this project was time. Being that this project was right around finals week, we sort of "ran out" of time when it came to recording sound effects for the different areas in this video. Some of the areas are completely silent that definitely could use sound effects. Other than that, we really enjoyed this project!

In this project, I discuss the recent decisions to go 1:1 with Chromebooks in the classroom at many local school districts, specifically the Durand School District. This is an audio version of the news story that I created last year, which can be seen above. During this project I learned the importance of recording levels—I was not clipping while recording but noticed afterward that I had many plosives and saturation due to how close I was to the microphone. I need to be sure to keep an ample distance while still maintaining a good recording level.

Audio PSA Project

Audio Podcast Project

In this project, I advocate for Durand Charm, a small town, non-for-profit organization in Durand, Illinois that is committed to making the town an even better place to work and play. For this project, I thought my audio levels were very good, with little to no plosives or saturation. I used a laugh track of children laughter that fit the narrative of the PSA well. Next time, I would love to play around with sound design more and would even consider using a music bed that would help to set the mood and enhance the idea of the PSA even more.

In this partner project, Tim and I interview Sergeant Tom Coe from the Rock Valley College Police Department. He discusses the college's active shooter training and how the staff and community have reacted to this training. For this production, we used two microphones to record our voices—one for Tim and me and the other for Sergeant Coe. While editing the project, Tim and I noticed that my voice was considerably lower than Tim's. This was due to the way I was sitting in relation to the microphone. I should have gotten closer to the microphone.
